Those with a more creative eye may enjoy visiting the Ayer Lofts, which is actually an art gallery and studio. This place contains a number of programs that include youth outreach and involvement in the artist community. Western Avenue Studios, once a mill, now contains over 160 working artists and musicians. Traditional art seems to be the mainstream course as there are many different artists that participate in almost all of the traditional art forms such as sculpture, painting and photography. However, there are also jewellers, fabric artists, video producers, digital painters and web designers, metal workers -- you name it! Western Avenue Studios will certainly have it. Visitors can tour all of the open floors and visit with the artists working in their studios, as well as have the opportunity to purchase art from the creators.
For those that enjoy the nightlife, Lowell Rocks is the website to visit to find out the big events that are happening. Lowell also reaches out to the musical community by hosting free orchestra concerts and youth programs at the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra. There is also a Cambodian classical and folk dance and youth program at the Angkor Dance Troupe.
If all of this hasn't caught your interest yet, then the sports venues will surely be a hit. Locals and visitors have the opportunity to go to the Edward A. LeLacheur Park Baseball Stadium to watch either professional baseball or University baseball. There is also performance and boxing at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The Tsongas Arena is for other various organized sports and concerts, while the Sampas Pavilion is the outdoor amphitheatre.
Lowell also hosts a number of Annual events that you won't find anywhere else. In October the city hosts the Bay State Marathon; in the last week of July there is the three-day Lowell Folk Festival; in February there is the Winterfest and the Massachusetts Poetry Festival.
